Tottenham Hotspur are making up for lost time. Since Jose Mourinho stepped away in the early months of 2021, the club has been looking to make a new managerial appointment, sign a Sporting Director, and buy a cadre of exciting new talent. All this comes with the backdrop of Harry Kane, the clubs talismanic captain, looking to get out from the club as soon as possible. However, with some interesting moves expected in the near future, Spurs fans can look forward to a new-look team under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Should Kane leave, as is expected with the player now no longer turning up for training, the club will sanction a host of new deals. This could include the arrival of a new striker, with Fiorentina and Serbia superstar Dusan Vlahovic linked with an arrival to the club. The young Serb has grown to be one of the most interesting young forwards in world football, and would offer a long-term option to build around in the post-Kane years.
Interestingly, though, Spurs are also looking to make the signing of Cristian Romero official as soon as possible. The deal looked dead last week, with Atalanta keen to keep the player. However, a bid in the region of £40m for a player who was a key asset in Argentina winning the Copa America looks to have made the transfer possible.
As such, expect Spurs to agree a deal for both players. Interestingly, it continues their appeal for players based in the Italian Serie A. The Italian top-flight has become a happy hunting ground for Spurs, and the arrival of Sporting Director Fabio Paratici plays a key role in that. the former Juventus man has a huge number of contacts within the Italian game.
Who else will Spurs look to sign?
The signing of Vlahovic, who scored an impressive 17 goals in the league last season, would be a major coup given the names looking at the player. With a fee of around £50m expected, it would also become a landmark deal for Spurs.
However, the club are also being linked with a series of impressive young stars from the Italian top-flight. They are being linked with Japanese international defender Takehiro Tomiyasu. The Japanese defender has been a key part of Bologna’s impressive season last year, and is currently at the Olympics with Japan having seen his team, the host nation, crash out in the Semi-Final stage.
Spurs, then, are expected to push ahead to try and land a deal for the player as they see him as the ideal replacement for Davinson Sanchez. The Colombian, who has failed to build on a strong start to life in North London, is expected to move on this summer for a move to La Liga.
With so much change expected in and out of the club, then, there is much work to be done in the near future. Expect more signings to arrive as the month unfolds, but for now it looks like Spurs have landed two of the best young talents in Italian football.
