Spurs expected to make two signings before deadline

In what has been arguably the most challenging summer in history for Tottenham fans, the 2021-22 season has started off with style. The outstanding win over reigning champions Manchester City was a wonderful way to begin the Nuno Espirito Santo era. However, Spurs looked solid and aggressive, committed to the concept of the team, and impressive in the final third. The immediate return to form of the likes of Dele Alli is a huge plus, as is the clutch performances of Son Heung-Min. All of this, done without Harry Kane!

While the talismanic want-away might still get his wish to move on from Spurs, the club are expected to push on with new signings. Spurs fans have long been excited with links to Pau Torres, who looks to be available on the market after Manchester United landed Raphael Varane instead. Torres, though, is believed to be keen to stay at Villarreal to play UEFA Champions League football. A strong bid, though, could be enough to shake his current team into a sale.

Spurs are keen for new defensive reinforcements, especially with the likely and expected exits of several key defensive players. However, while exits are expected, Torres is believed to be a possible signing once a fee is agreed. Though keen to stay in Spain, reports do suggest that Torres would be keen to join the Premier League team – especially with the arrival of the hugely exciting Bryan Gil.

Who else could Tottenham sign?

Another name with strong links to Spurs is one that fans should be excited by – Nahitan Nandez. The all-action Uruguayan would be seen as the ideal fit in midfield alongside the equally combative Pierre Emil-Hojbjerg. This would be seen as an extra midfield body in a squad that desperately needs some more depth in the centre.

The likes of Harry Winks have fallen out of favour, and other midfielders such as Tanguy N’Dombele and Moussa Sissoko could leave the club within the next year, or sooner. As such, new midfield options are seen as essential, and Nandez would offer the perfect ally to go alongside the Dane in the midfield of the pitch.

Aggressive and combative with a crisp pass, Nandez is a pure ball-winner that would excel in a Nuno midfield. His ability to cover ground, fill in at various positions, and to sit in for teammates who go forward with aggression should be seen as a huge boon to a Spurs team.

The midfielder has long been linked with a move to England, having impressed hugely since arrived in Italy. However, he is keen to leave Cagliari, and is keen to try out a new opportunity in England. His ability to play as a wing-back or in the centre of the park would offer a versatile, intelligent option.

At 25, too, he would be able to come in and immediately play. He is an experienced international with a huge future ahead of him, and looks set to be coveted by Spurs. The player was expected to move to Internazionale, but a deal has fallen through and thus he could arrive in England instead.
