Tottenham making good progress on Everton double deal

It does not take much for a transfer window to kick into proper action. All it takes is one deal going in any direction and players can start moving to new places left, right, and centre. This does add some intrigue to the transfer window, but for fans it can be frustrating. Knowing that a signing is more or less reliant on another team doing a deal can make what seems like a sure thing transfer fall apart in a matter of hours. For Tottenham, though, the aim this summer has been to pick up players they know want to come to the club.

In the Everton duo of Anthony Gordon and Richarlison, that now appears to be the case. Spurs are making good progress on both deals, per reports, and Antonio Conte is keen to have both in ASAP. Richarlison is an obvious choice – someone who can give Harry Kane a proper run for his money as a starting forward. At the same time, he can play off a forward, in a pair, or in a three. This makes Richarlison the ideal choice for Spurs this summer.

As a young Brazilian international, too, there is room for growth and for him to fit in with an already young dressing room. Such a move for Richarlison makes sense, then, but what about Gordon?

For many, the rumour seemed to be one built by the press. Why would a young Everton fan who has just broken into the team and played a key role in keeping them in the Premier League move on? Put simply, ambition. Spurs are going places under one of the most talented coaches in world football. Can Everton really say they are doing anything like the same thing this summer?

Spurs hoping to conclude double deal ASAP

The hope is that the deal will be concluded by the middle of July at the latest. Both deals are believed to be far enough down the road that it is clear that both players and clubs are happy for things to progress. While some fans might want to see other players arriving ahead of the Everton pair, it is clear that they are both targets laid out by Conte.

The Italian is believed to be keen to see Richarlison in his side as he adds a snarl and a snap to the attack. He is physical without lacking technique, and he is powerful without lacking pace. In short, he ticks most of the boxes that one would hope for when signing a forward. Gordon, whilst more of a prospect, brings pace and fearlessness to the wide areas. He also showed with Everton that he is not afraid to track back and help the defence protect themselves.

Both players, then, mark the kind of young, aggressive, and athletic options that Conte wants in his squad. As the club finally starts to build a team with a plan in mind again, both Richarlison and Gordon seem to fit a specific archetype. For the first time in a while, then, the club appears to have a clear and direct plan for development.
