Tottenham expected to finish protracted Adama Traore transfer

Life as a Tottenham fan can mean plenty of envious glances at other clubs. For years, Spurs fans have watched the club be linked with players for weeks, even months, on end. And while deals with long-standing linkees do tend to go through, it takes far, far too long to be completed. This leaves many fans exasperated as a deal that would be wrapped up in days for a rival can take weeks for the club to finish. Case in point, Adama Traore. Long before the January window opened it was clear that Traore was going to be leaving current club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A contract that runs out in 2023, a lack of negotiation success, and a rather spiralling run of poor form for the Spaniard was enough to see new Wolves coach Bruno Lage commit to his exit. However, it is only now – after what feels like months of cat-and-mouse negotiations – that Spurs will finally land the winger. The deal is expected to be around £20m, meeting happily in the middle of the valuation for both clubs.

The player is now expected to be a Spurs player by the end of the month. However, it is another example of how the club has failed to impress Antonio Conte since the Italian came onboard. Promises were believed to have been made about winter window deals and progressing the squad to be in-line with what Conte demands.

Instead, even a cut-and-dried deal for a player who is keen to move and openly available has taken weeks. It has left precious little time to do deals elsewhere. More annoyingly, it has also left Spurs looking to be sellers as opposed to buyers once the deal for the Wolves flying machine has been formally completed.

Spurs rebuffed in Sevilla swap deal offer

It was reported that Spurs had offered a deal to title challenging Spanish outfit Sevilla for defender Diego Carlos. The defender has long been linked with a move to England, but no deal has ever taken place. Links to Newcastle United exist, but it is believed to be an unlikely end destination for the player given the disparity in fees asked for and offered.

However, reports suggested that Spurs had offered a cash deal plus Giovani Lo Celso to try and finish the deal. It is believed that Conte is not a huge fan of the Argentine, and would be happy to move him on if he could find a good replacement – or land someone like Carlos.

That being said, reports suggest that there will be no movement for the player as Sevilla are not looking for a central midfielder. Carlos is a key part of their title charge, and would be a huge gamble for the Andalusian outfit to sell in the middle of such a crucial part of the season.

With Anthony Martial moving to Seville, the hope was that the Spaniards would need to find money to fund the deal. However, it looks like Spurs will not be seeing the Brazilian stopper arrive in January.
