Tottenham Hotspur set to complete sensational deal for Spanish starlet

Having endured a deeply embarrassing 2021 so far, Tottenham appear to finally be getting their act together. The Lilywhites have been linked with a cadre of managers, being rejected one-by-one until finally arranging a deal with Nuno Espirito Santo. A series of player names have been linked to, as Spurs look to build a team that is exciting enough to keep Harry Kane interested in sticking around. However, news of a deal to sign a young superstar from La Liga has fans hugely excited.

Linked heavily with FC Barcelona, it appears Spurs have won the race to pick up Bryan Gil. The youngster is a Sevilla player, and enjoyed a wonderful loan spell with Eibar last year where he was among the best wide players in the division. He will agree a long-term contract with Spurs for a fee of around £21.5m. Spurs will also give up Erik Lamela, the Argentina international who has long sought an exit from the club. His move to Sevilla will see Spurs lose a talented playmaker, but pick up a direct winger who can attack more attacking penetration to the team.

Fans are already excited to see Gil link-up with fellow Spaniard Sergio Reguilon. The duo should offer a dynamic attacking style on the flank, giving Spurs fans another option that can help to stretch defences and attack teams from various angles. Though the loss of a fan favourite in Lamela is a blow, it offers Spurs the chance to sign a young talent who might otherwise have been out of their reach.

Seen as one of the most exciting talents in Spanish football, the arrival of Gil is seen as a game-changer in what has been a slow burning summer for Spurs.

Is Bryan Gil the right signing for Spurs?

On the face of it, the deal feels too good to be true. Spurs can pick up a sensational talent who should cost far more than the £21.5m price tag agreed. They will get a long-term asset who can either become a key player for the club or be sold on for a huge profit to a La Liga club in the near future.

He was expected to leave Sevilla this summer, as his year at Eibar was so impressive it would be nigh-impossible for the Andalusians to make a deal to keep the player. Instead, he will be flipped to North London where he joins a Spurs team that is crying out for another direct attacking option.

A fantastic dribbler who is noted for tremendous off the ball movement and calm finishing, Gil might offer Spurs fans the kind of bums-off-seats attacking style that has been sorely lacking in recent seasons. As one of the most exciting players in La Liga, Spurs are completing a coup for a player who is seen by many as a guaranteed future Spanish international regular.

Given the gloom of the year so far, a marquee pick-up like this should be one that excites fans hugely.
