AC Milan Agree on 5-Year Deal with Tottenham’s Emerson Royal, Awaiting Levy’s Approval

Emerson Royal

AC Milan have made significant strides in their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur’s Emerson Royal, according to recent reports.

Emerson Royal’s Move to Milan Progresses

Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Wednesday that AC Milan are advancing in their efforts to sign Emerson Royal. Later the same day, Calciomercato confirmed that the right-back has instructed his agent to facilitate a move to the Serie A club.

A fresh update from Gazzetta dello Sport supports these claims, stating that Emerson Royal is eager to transfer to San Siro quickly. The Brazilian defender has agreed in principle to a five-year deal with Milan, worth €3 million per year.

Negotiations with Tottenham

AC Milan plan to leverage Emerson’s willingness to join to negotiate a “fair” price with Tottenham. Although there is still a gap between the two clubs’ valuations, Milan remain optimistic due to the player’s clear desire to move.

Tottenham, who paid €25 million for Emerson in 2021, are asking for the same amount in the transfer. However, Milan aim to finalize the deal for around €18-20 million, including bonuses. Gazzetta dello Sport notes that Tottenham could still make a profit if they reduce their demands, having already amortized much of the initial fee.

Awaiting Levy’s Approval

Milan hope to conclude the transfer soon so that Emerson can join their pre-season training starting Monday. However, this hinges on Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s approval. Known for his tough negotiating style, Levy and Tottenham are not in a rush to sell.

Despite this, the Italian club remains confident of sealing the transfer this summer. It appears to be “only a matter of time” before the move is finalized, pending Levy’s go-ahead.
