Tottenham Hotspur’s Ryan Sessegnon is set to miss the remainder of the season following a hamstring surgery, dealing a significant blow to his career, as reported by sources to Football Insider.
The 23-year-old underwent surgery on his right hamstring on February 26 after sustaining another muscle injury while playing for Spurs’ under-21s against West Ham on February 17. This marks the second time Sessegnon has required surgery in the past year, with his previous operation in July focusing on his left hamstring.
Tottenham does not anticipate Sessegnon’s involvement in first-team action for the remainder of the season, with his return slated for the 2024-25 campaign, coinciding with pre-season preparations.
Sessegnon’s rehabilitation process will necessitate an extended period of rest, with hopes for a full recovery ahead of the next season.
Despite his limited appearances this season, including a solitary substitute outing in the FA Cup against Burnley in January, Sessegnon’s potential was evident during his time under Antonio Conte’s management last season. However, recurring hamstring issues sidelined him in mid-February.
Since joining Tottenham from Fulham in a reported £25 million deal in 2019, Sessegnon has contributed three goals and four assists in 57 appearances for the club.
Tottenham currently occupies fifth place in the Premier League standings following their recent 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace. Their next fixture is against Aston Villa at Villa Park on March 10th.
