Tottenham Hotspur have identified their top striking target for the summer. Ange Postecoglou is in the market for a centre-forward as he looks to assemble a squad capable of finishing inside the Champions League spots. The North Londoners narrowly missed out last term, finishing two points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa, so the onus will be to go one better.
With that said, Postecoglou has now identified the striker that he feels will take his side up a level, and it’s thought a substantial bid is being prepared.
Tottenham Set to Submit £42.6m Bid for Dominic Solanke
According to Caught Offside, Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to submit a £42.6 million bid for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke. The North Londoners have already met with Solanke’s representatives, and now a formal offer is expected to arrive in the coming days. The 26-year-old remains an option for Arsenal and Liverpool, but it appears Spurs are now in pole position to land his signature.
Solanke has a £65 million release clause in his contract that’s only active for the top six clubs. It remains to be seen if Bournemouth are willing to negotiate lower than his clause.
Dominic Solanke Similar to Robert Lewandowski
Solanke is of a very similar profile to Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, according to FBref data. The former Liverpool striker is a physically imposing centre-forward who excels at link-up play but most of all, he’s a clinical finisher. Solanke netted 19 Premier League goals last term, with only Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer, and Erling Haaland scoring more.
