Ange Postecoglou’s Return to Japan

Ange Postecoglou, who remains beloved in Japan after his successful stint with Yokohama F. Marinos, returned to Japanese football with his Tottenham squad for this pre-season campaign.

Match Recap

Tottenham faced Vissel Kobe and initially fell behind when Yuya Osako opened the scoring. However, Spurs quickly responded with Pedro Porro equalizing and Son Heung-min putting them ahead. Jean Patric then brought Vissel Kobe level again, but wonderkid Mikey Moore secured a 3-2 victory for Tottenham in the dying stages of the game.

Destiny Udogie’s Praise for Lucas Bergvall

Postecoglou fielded a strong lineup but made several changes at halftime, introducing Swedish teenager Lucas Bergvall. Having joined from Djurgarden in February, Bergvall turned down Barcelona to move to Tottenham, generating considerable excitement among Spurs fans.

Bergvall’s pre-season performances have been promising, showcasing his ability to come deep and play through the lines. Although it remains to be seen if Postecoglou will throw the 18-year-old into Premier League action right away, his early displays have been encouraging.

Bergvall shared photos from his time in Tokyo on Instagram, highlighting his experiences both on and off the field, including outings with teammate and compatriot Dejan Kulusevski. Destiny Udogie, who is currently recovering from injury and has yet to feature this summer, responded to Bergvall’s post, simply calling him “starboy,” indicating his admiration for the teenager’s performances.

Future Prospects

Udogie, another young talent with a bright future at Tottenham, is expected to form part of an exciting cohort of players alongside Bergvall. This group includes Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin, Archie Gray, Brennan Johnson, and potentially South Korean talent Yang Min-hyuk.

Udogie has already made enough of an impression to be included in Gary Neville’s Team of the Season for the 2023-24 campaign. With the potential of players like Bergvall, Spurs fans have plenty to be optimistic about as the club aims to build a formidable team for the future.
