Tottenham Hotspur’s captain, Heung-min Son, is poised to make his return to the club this week following South Korea’s exit from the Asian Cup.
After South Korea’s 2-0 defeat to Jordan in the semi-finals, Son expressed his apologies to the fans for his team’s lackluster performance, failing to register a single shot on target.
With Son’s imminent return, Tottenham will benefit from the presence of their top scorer this season, having netted 12 goals thus far.
Since being appointed captain by manager Ange Postecoglou in the summer, Son has showcased his best form, becoming a key figure for the club.
During his absence, Brazilian forward Richarlison has stepped up, scoring four goals in the five games missed by Son.
While Son had hoped to lead South Korea to their first Asian Cup title since 1960, the team was stunned by Jordan in the semi-finals.
Reflecting on the defeat, Son expressed his disappointment but acknowledged Jordan’s remarkable journey in the tournament, emphasizing their deserving success.
Despite the setback, Son is determined to refocus on his club duties, stating, “Now I have to go back to the club and be ready for the rest of the season.”
Son’s return is anticipated to provide a significant boost for Tottenham ahead of their upcoming fixture against Brighton, offering depth and attacking prowess to the squad.
