Tottenham Hotspur chasing landmark midfielder deal

As one of the most interesting clubs in Europe now with the arrival of Antonio Conte, Tottenham fans are feeling confident. It has been a while since a feeling of genuine optimism existed at Spurs. The Lilywhites have found themselves on a purgatorial journey since Mauricio Pochettino left the club. And while much time has been wasted with both Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo, the squad that remains is a strong one indeed. The arrival of Conte, though, comes with the promise of more signings and more quality.

Indeed, one name who is now closely being linked with a move to Spurs is Franck Kessie. The powerhouse Ivorian has become one of the best players in Italy, but is set to leave AC Milan on a free transfer. His contract runs out in 2022, but Spurs are believed to be keen to test the resolve of the Rossoneri with a bid for the midfielder.

A fantastic box to box midfield with an eye for goal, Spurs could use someone like Kessie. He would offer the kind of running power and passing prowess that they need, allowing the likes of Oliver Skipp and Tanguy Ndombele to do their own thing. At the moment the midfield looks imbalanced and feels muddled, but this signing would immediately make a big change in adding a more balanced look.

Kessie is a great overall player, with the physicality and tactical fluidity to fit perfectly into the Spurs midfield. He would offer a balance that has been missing since Moussa Dembele left the club to move to China. A top class operator with a keen eye for goal, there is no reason why Kessie cannot be the first of several game-changing signings to arrive under Antonio Conte.

Harry Kane set for a career rebirth?

It would be foolish for any Spurs fan to ignore the fact that for much of 2021 Harry Kane has downed tools. From his ill-advised interview with Gary Neville to a summer where he spent more time talking about the NFL than his own team, the relationship between player and fans has been strained to say the least.

However, despite his demands to move on from the club, it sounds like the arrival of Conte will mean that Kane goes nowhere. The move to a likely 3-5-2 formation means that Spurs can get back to paring Kane with Son Heung-Min, creating what might be the most exciting attacking duo in the league.

With that in mind, there is an obvious excitement as to what happens next. Kane might have burnt some bridges with fans when he tried to leave the club, but it appears that most will be happy to forgive and forget if it means getting to keep him for another while yet.

With Conte here until 2023 at least, Spurs fans can get excited about the future once again. For the first time in a long time, things appear to be on the up for the club. Conte arriving has changed everything – it really is that simple.
