Sergio Reguilon set to miss extended gametime for Spurs?

Having made a big impact since he arrived in England, Tottenham full-back Sergio Reguilon has won plenty of fans. He has become a mainstay in a Spurs side that continues to impress and push for qualification for the UEFA Champions League once again. With a few more right results, too, they could easily be involved in the open title race that is taking place. With Liverpool set to arrive in London on Thursday night, though, Spurs will need to make do without a key player in Sergio Reguilon.

The full-back, who arrived from Real Madrid in the summer, has been a key part of the Mourinho first-team since he came in. Having made the left-back position his own, he was a key part of the turnaround in form that had many anointing Spurs as favourites for the title. However, he will miss the Liverpool game – and likely a series of other games – as his injury refuses to clear up.

He will miss the clash with Liverpool through a muscle injury. Given the sheer number of muscle injuries, and re-occurrences of these injuries upon return to action, we might not see Reguilon for a matter of weeks now. Despite not being seen as a serious injury, it is likely to mean missing out on a key set of games: the game against Liverpool, the game against Chelsea in the league, a match-up with Everton in an FA Cup tie, and a visit to Manchester City. For Spurs, it means reshuffling the team once again to make sure that the loss of the Spaniard is not felt too keenly.

The problem is exasperated, too, by an increasing number of injuries in key positions for Mourinho that might make it hard for him to juggle his squad.

Who will play left-back for Spurs?

Usually, duties to move back into the position would fall to Ben Davies. However, the Welshman is injured himself and is unlikely to be able to make it back in time for at least the Liverpool game. The Wales international missed out after being injured against Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup, as part of the team that won 4-1 at Adams Park. The hope, though, is that he will be fit again for the weekend and ensure that Mourinho does not have to draft someone in out of position to fill in at left full-back.

Injuries have had a liking for Spurs this season, with the club often playing without a full deck of players or their ideal first team selection available. This is likely to cause some change-ups for Mourinho, though, who has been shown to be keener than usual to bring in some of his youth players into the team. Expect a rather creative solution to the left-sided problem should Spurs still be without their two main left-backs come Friday morning.

With Liverpool on the horizon, expect Mourinho to come up with something that would bamboozle the opposition.
